what happen to summer?

This summer has came and gone so fast its not even funny. Out of all the things I could of done this summer I only did a few art projects.

The first project I been playing with since I found out about the munny dolls (see previous posting). Wanting to do a Pride and Prejudice (Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett) theme I been working on sketches and research on what I want my dolls to look like. After kind of figuring out was I was going for I started on the Mr. Darcy doll (this was during the spring).

This June was the 5th annav. of the munny dolls and they were holding a contest on different categories. I decided to turn my munny dolls in, but the rules were that you had to do them in the month of June. Not liking how the Mr. Darcy doll tuned out; I redid his and worked on the Elizabeth Bennet doll. They turned out well, but didn't win the contest. I am still not satisfied with them so maybe I will work on them some more...

My niece was down this summer and with she learning that I am going to school to be an (better) artist, she been trying to get me to paint (watercolor) with her. With trying to teach her how to paint (using more water than paint) didn't work out so well. In the end she had fun and got a only studies done. Now she said she wants to be an artist when she grows up.... I don't know how my brother would feel about this.

With trying to work on work books (I got last year) to help me build a better knowledge of the programs I work with. Well Adobe came out with an up grade of CS5 and now I need to get an up date with them. One good thing came out of it. I been trying to do some more illustrations and I got some ideas and one illustration done.

With nothing else I have really done this summer other than cards (see previous posting) this is the conclusion of my summer art work. Now on to school work!

Another School Year...

Well, summer is gone and school started back up. Not spending my time wisely, it didn't help me get the things I wanted done. For the most part, I think not working on a lot of art projects helped me in the long run (I hope). This way my mind is fresh for the new school year.

I am again taking 9 hours of studio classes (design for Ad, publication design, and sculpture), a long with an art history, and ballroom dancing. I already feel the presser on me with my classes, but it is good to be back and ready to roll. I may only have 3 to 4 projects in each class (not that many projects); but these few projects are what is going to help me build my portfolio together for next fall semester. Did I mention that I am about done with school.

It turns out I only need 3 semesters of classes left vs 4. In noticing this I thought I better be looking for internships for this summer and what else is out there. What it turns out that there are a few places in town (where I go to school) that are looking for Graphic Designers for work study.

After seeing what place I wouldn't mind working at. I sent out my resume and portfolio, and I got an email back. With phone calls, interview, and (still waiting on the) paper work. I got the job (even with the paper work is still going through for the work study). This job is working at a youth center. I think I will learn a lot and get more work for my portfolio.

Now with the new school year. I am going to post more school work and projects (lasts years, the few from this summer, and what I can with this new job). Can't wait to see where it takes me.

Cards

So it is summer... I know I need to show and talk about what I did in my classes from the semester since I hadn't done it during the school year. I been kind of busy this summer, found out that I get magrains and not headaches; now I am trying to control them, but its taking time. I notice that with them it is hard for me to read and a lot of other things, but hopefully with the meds. I got from the doctor, I will be myself again by this fall when school starts.

My plan was to try and work though the work books I got last fall and find new ways to to use my programs; this way I know them better. For now I am tired of buying greeting cards. I remember when I was younger I use to make them with stamps that my Nana would give me and my sister. Thinking about that I decided to create my own cards for special events. Thus far I have only done two but I am learning new things about my programs as well in doing this.

The only ones I have done so far was a birthday card for my niece. It is Hannah Montana, my niece is in love with this girl. I found a picture online of her and crop her out, then create a new background for the card.

The next one I did was a wedding card I did for a friend of mine. My friend was getting married and she didn't register any where for her wedding gifts, so I made her a wedding gift. I took one of there engagement pictures that they took and worked on it. I took out the garbage can behind them as well as the mail box. I also took out a branch from the tree that they are standing next to so it wouldn't take a way from them. Last but not least I made the photo a bit more sharper than what it was.

And no gift is complete without a card to go with it. I decided to use the invitation as a the theme of the card. It came with a plastic cover that had a design on it, so I scan that in and try to come up with any ideas. The first thing I notice that it had a very floral theme on it. As I was trying different things on it to see what look better I notice that it had a flower tours the bottom and it had a butterfly on it; so I darken it. Looking at it the butterfly was still blinding in the background so I painted it darker to stand out the most.

Now on the inside of the card I use the same theme, but I just darken the background. Then I just added a quote I had (I keep a collection of quotes) to help finish the card off.

These cards are pretty fun to do. Now I just need to think up a logo for myself to put on the back of them. I am thinking K. Bryson Designs and maybe one of my silhouette pictures... Maybe my artwork called Spain...

Jack Vettriano

One of my favorite artist just open up another show over in Europe. His name is Jack Vettriano; he is a painter.

I found him in an art magazine when I was in high school. I fell in love with his painting called "The Singing Butler."

His show is called "Day of Wine and Roses."

Chicago

I soo forgot to do a post last month, so I will make it up this month!

I am been so excited within the last couple of weeks. I had spring break and I got to go to CHICAGO! I went up to see a few of my friends that moved up there; and to do some sight seeing.

But while I was there I took some really good pictures and got to see some really awesome things as well. I had a BLAST!

I went to the Shed Aquarium, Millennium Park, Hard Rock Cafe, Hancock Observatory, The Biggest AMC Theater, The Field Museum, The Chicago Art Institute, Cheese Cake Factory, and shopping!

I can't wait to go back.

Munny, Munny, Munny, Munny, M-u-n-n-y!

No, I did not spell that wrong. It is Munny product though Munnyworld. This is a vinyl doll that is blank that you are able to design on it. You can use anything on it pens, pencils, markers, crayons, paints and etc. If you can design with it than you can use it. It is a new kind of canvas to put your ideas on.

I found this doll in Teen Vogue magazine. They use these dolls as models for sunglasses and jewelry. It took me forever to find out what they are called. Until, I an article about one girl that collect these type of dolls.

You can find them on the web sight www.kidrobot.com. These Munnies come in all different shapes and sizes. You can get the main kind in three different sizes 4" for $10, 7" for $25 and 18" for $200. Not to mention key chains too. There are also the four elements, and other shapes for animals as well.

I have bough two of the Munnies; the 4" and 7" main type. I will post pictures of my designs of my Munnies when I finish them. Until then here are a few pictures of Munny that I found online.

A New Year; A New Year Resolution

I know I didn't do as many post as what I should of this last year and for my class as what I should of. But this year I am putting forth the effort to do more post. I might not post what I am doing or doing have an idea of what to do, but I will post something. This something is a long the lines of what I am doing within my classroom, outside of the classroom, and what ever I can find interesting tours art and design.

I would also like to note that I would of post this earlier, but I do not have my laptop with me. Well it not working. The hard drive crash the week after finials; and I was really lucky as far as that goes. The good news is that I finial got up to the city today to get it fix. I have been either working or snowed in and can't get anywhere. For now until I get my laptop fixed and back; I am using my mom's computer. It not easy to get on. Its almost a battle on who gets to use it. I have fight my family to use it, or what it seems like.
